Andy’s Desk

We’ve learned something about Andy here in the Seniority Neighborhood: if he tells you something is “somewhere on my desk,” make other plans.

Nobody is entirely sure where the desk ends and the filing system begins. There are papers, books, folders, notes, half-finished ideas and probably several things he’s been looking for since 2017. Somewhere underneath all of it, we’re told, there may actually be a desk.

But we’ve also begun to suspect that Andy’s desk is more than a desk.

It may be a fairly accurate representation of the author’s mind—one idea piled on another, characters wandering in without appointments, conversations going somewhere they were never intended to go, and absolutely nothing being thrown away because “we may need that someday.”

Come to think of it, that sounds a lot like the Seniority Neighborhood itself.

Things start in one place. They end somewhere completely different. Nobody remembers how we got there. And somehow, it all seems perfectly reasonable at the time.

Welcome to Andy’s Desk—our first Seniority Moment.

And if this kind of nonsense feels strangely familiar, there’s plenty more where it came from.
